Black Belt Grading
In September 2009 Shihan Colin Wood graded Sampai Darren Callow from Brown Belt to 1st Dan Black Belt and awarded him the title of Sensei.
In a very Hard grading with 5 senior students as Uke's Sensei Darren had to demonstrate all the techniques in the Black Belt syllabus followed by a full re-cap of all the previous syllabuses with Shihan watching closely for any mistakes.
Shihan Wood said that he was very pleased with how well Sensei Darren performed on the grading and was very happy to award him his Black Belt. In my
opinion Sensei Darren Callow is a great asset to the club and I am very pleased to welcome him into the rank of Black Belt and Instructor.
Milton Keynes Jiu-Jitsu sets very high standards for gradings and although it takes students at the club a long time to achieve a Black Belt when they do they really earn it.
All the members of Milton Keynes Jiu-Jitsu would like to extend their congratulations to Sensei Callow.

New Junior Club Title
In July 2009 a new junior student was awarded the title of Senpai (Senior Student).
Shihan Wood said that the new Senpai received the title not just for being the highest junior grade but for his attitude towards his training and his ability.
This is only the second time that the title has been awarded at the junior club.
The new Senpai received a certificate, a new belt with a black stripe through it and a new Gi with his name and title on it.

New Senior Session
Starting June 2009 Milton Keynes Jiu-Jitsu will be running a new senior session on Sunday mornings between 10.00am and 12.00pm, the session will be held at Haversham Social and Community Centre, The Crescent, Haversham, Milton Keynes, MK19 7AN.
The club will be for senior students aged from 16 years up, everybody is welcome.
Any students 16 or over but under 18 will need a person over 18 to sign a membership form before you will be allowed to train.
Anybody who would like to come along and watch are welcome.

Junior Black Belt
In March 2009 Shihan Wood graded one of the junior students to Junior Black Belt.
After a hard two hour continuous grading with senior students as Uke's the grade was well and truly earned.
Shihan Wood said that this is first time a junior student has ever reached the grade of Black Belt at the club and with the effort and skill that was shown on the day he could not be any prouder.
The new junior Black will retain his title of Senpai (Senior Student) because as a club we do not recognise junior instructors, juniors are there to learn not teach.
As a junior Black belt the student will wear a red belt with a black stripe through it to indicate his grade.
The whole of Milton Keynes Jiu-Jitsu both Junior and Senior sections would like to give their congratulations to the new Black Belt.
Dan Grade Promotion
In December 2008, Soke Richard Morris (10th Dan) Graded Renshi Colin Wood from 4th Dan, to 5th Dan, and promoted him from the title of Renshi to the title of Shihan.
Gladiators and stuff
The junior students that are invited to attend the extra training sessions are going to be given the opportunity to do gladiator fighting (using padded staffs while balancing on a stand) on a regular monthly basis.
The club has purchased new head guards along with body armour to make this as safe as possible for the students, in addition we will also be supplying gloves and gum shields to all the students taking part.
We hope that if this is success we will be able to develop it on to include other weapons as well as using the pads for some free sparring.
Shihan Colin Wood.
Soke Richard Morris
Shihan Wood and all the students and Instructors from Milton Keynes Jiu-Jitsu would like to congratulate Soke Richard Morris on his promotion to 10th Dan, a well deserved promotion given to the best Jiu-Jitsu Instructor that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting or training with, I hope that we have many more years of his leadership and instruction.
Shihan Colin Wood 4th Dan.
